Customer storyFieldRoutes→Solea Horizon Pest Control is a 56-year-old family company with about 40 technicians across New Jersey and New York. In May 2026, in the middle of its busiest season, Horizon moved from FieldRoutes to Solea. Here is how its office and technicians use Solea every day, in their own words and numbers.
How Horizon runs on Solea today
Four jobs that used to fill the office’s day, and how Solea does them at Horizon now. The screens show Solea with demo data, not Horizon’s account.
Solea’s AI voice agent answers Horizon’s residential calls, day and night. It books, reschedules and cancels appointments right in Solea instead of taking a message, and hands the call to a person when the caller needs one.
Before, callers left voicemails and Horizon’s CSRs called everyone back at the end of the day, in season often until 7 PM or later. Horizon started with the voice agent in spring 2025, a year before it moved the rest of the office to Solea.

Solea fills Horizon’s routes for the month and orders each day around the real travel time between stops, so the day a technician is given holds up in the field.
Horizon’s CSRs used to spend 10 to 20 hours a week filling routes by hand. That time now goes to quality assurance calls after service.

Each technician’s agenda, service tickets and customer notes live in the Solea app. On commercial accounts, technicians scan every bait station, light trap and glue board, record activity and products, and the inspection report goes to the customer.
FieldRoutes had promised Horizon barcoding and never delivered it. Horizon asked Solea for it, and it was built in under two months, ready on go-live day.

Patrick LivecchiService Manager, Horizon Pest Control

Horizon’s managers read their numbers straight from Solea’s reports instead of pulling them together by hand. Ask AI sits on every report: ask a question about the numbers and Solea answers with charts and comparisons to earlier periods.
Ed’s favorite is the service duration report, which shows how long each service really takes, by service type, technician and date range.

Before Solea
Horizon has been family-owned and operated for 56 years, with around 30 routes a day across New Jersey and New York. Horizon started on ServSuite, and when ServSuite stopped being an option, Horizon moved to FieldRoutes. For a brief window, Bernie says, Horizon’s team was pretty happy with FieldRoutes.
Then the gaps showed. FieldRoutes had promised barcoding, a feature Horizon absolutely had to have, and it never worked. Other things Horizon was waiting on from FieldRoutes still hadn’t arrived three years later.
Horizon already knew Solea: Solea’s AI voice agent had been answering Horizon’s calls since spring 2025. When Solea offered to build what Horizon needed, it delivered, and Bernie made the call to switch.
“The problem was [FieldRoutes] often overpromised and underdelivered. There were certain aspects of the program that we had been waiting on for three years, and [FieldRoutes] still never delivered on.”
Bernie HolstCEO, Horizon Pest Control
The switch
Switching in May, in the middle of the season, is nobody’s first choice. Bernie decided it couldn’t wait. The first days had a couple of hiccups, and Solea’s team was in the building to fix them.
“The experience of moving from FieldRoutes to Solea, I believe, was much smoother. We had [Solea’s] people on site. They were working with us.”
Bernie HolstCEO, Horizon Pest Control · switched from FieldRoutesSolea built barcoding before go-live and came out a week early to train Horizon’s team in its own office.
“[Solea] said, ‘Hey, we could build this out for you.’ And [Solea] did.”Bernie Holst
A team of five from Solea was in Horizon’s office for the cutover and the week after. Most fixes landed within hours, the rest within days.
“Everybody on my team probably took their lumps a little bit, but we worked through it pretty quick, and any situations that we had, Solea and [Solea’s] team were on top of.”Bernie Holst
Ed Campos leads the day-to-day for Horizon. Requests go into a shared Slack channel, and new features keep shipping from those conversations.
“[The Solea team] almost feels like it’s working with somebody within my own organization.”Bernie Holst
“Where the larger companies [like FieldRoutes] couldn’t make adjustments for what we needed in three years, [Solea has] been making adjustments in days and weeks.”
Advice for owners
Asked what he’d tell another owner about moving to any new platform, not just Solea:
Know the software company’s team you’re going to work with. Talk to other pest control companies about how their transition went, and the support they did or didn’t get.
Know the features you need and check they’re in the product now. That’s how Horizon ended up on FieldRoutes, with barcoding that didn’t work.
Get your people trained up front, so on the day of the transition it isn’t brand new to them.
If someone in your organization loves technology and embraces change, make them one of your leads, if not the lead.
“We were fortunate we had our office manager, Ed Campos, and he basically took this baton when we made the commitment to change.”

Horizon did. It went live on May 26, 2026, in its busiest month, with a team from Solea in its office the week before and the week after. Bernie says there were a couple of hiccups in the first days; most fixes landed within hours and the rest within days.
Solea’s team migrates your customers, properties, service history, recurring plans and open balances, and gives your team a working account on your real data before go-live. You run in parallel with a named person from Solea until the office is comfortable.
No. At Horizon it answers residential calls and books, reschedules and cancels appointments, and it hands a call to a person when the caller needs one. Horizon’s CSRs now take far fewer calls, spend the time on quality assurance calls after service, and no longer stay late in season returning voicemails.
Solea is built for pest control companies with 5+ technicians, from mid-market through enterprise. Horizon runs about 30 routes a day with around 40 technicians across New Jersey and New York.
Solea is all-in-one pest control software. Customers, scheduling and routing, the technician app, billing, payments and reporting run in one system, and AI agents answer calls, texts and emails. Horizon moved its whole office off FieldRoutes to Solea.
